Blueprint for a New American Home

The American Home is changing as people are looking to keep building costs down, improve energy efficiency in the home, and most importantly, have as much useful living space in the home as possible.

This article in the Wall Street Journal does a great job of highlighting some of the newer trends in home design. For example, formal living rooms & dining rooms and grand foyers are ‘out’ while open family rooms and drop zones are ‘in’.

These changes are not strictly for new construction homes either. In Atlanta particularly, many people are using these ideas to remodel older homes so they can maximize living space while living in established neighborhoods with great locations. Above is a picture of a  home we sold just this month that is a perfect example of this – you wouldn’t know it from looking at it, but it is a 1950s brick ranch!
